Every generation has a transitional period where there’s people who are born too late to be part of one generation but too early for another. These transitions aren’t always clearly marked, like the transition between X and Millenial is considered to be between 1977 and 1982, which are the years the first two star wars movies came out. This is not because the star wars movies had such an impact that they caused a generational rift, it’s just they happened to line up.
However, a gap I feel is very well defined is the gap between Millenials and the next generation, or people who were born before 9/11 but were too young to remember it. There isn’t a starting tear, because people remember things differently, but remembering 9/11 is something that changes how you think about life…at least, to my understanding. I was born in 98, so I was only three when the attacks happened and because of that I don’t remember anything about it. All I know is from stories and documentaries and just general culture. Meanwhile, someone a year or two older may remember the attacks and though not necessarily understanding why, may be traumatized by them nontheless.
The 9/11 attacks had such a strong impact on people witnessing the event, that I believe that it caused a rift in between the generations. They may still remember some of the same shows or games, but they will be very different because of these events.
